HFLA template answers:

  1. Any substitutes for affected ingredients?

Pasteurized whole eggs, liquid eggs, frozen eggs, eggs in cartons. These substitutions are less susceptible to environmental factors such as natural disasters and virus breakouts. Moreover, additives added in the process prolongs the shelf lives as compared to fresh whole eggs.

  1. How to detect whether the food/ingredients are affected by avian flu? Any prevention methods?

The first symptom displayed by affected poultry and wild birds is: The affected ones stop producing eggs.

Second symptom: If eggs are laid by affected poultry, those eggs are vulnerable to breakages when undergoing grading and washing processes. Which means, there is a POSSIBILITY that those eggs are not of quality; affected.

Lastly, preventive measures taken by ALL officials are: If suspected of any case of Avian Influenza (AI), all flow of eggs from that facility is STOPPED even without confirmed evidence of breakout.
